Can any body guide me on my six day tour to trivandrum. places of intrest, how to travel and reservations.?
I am going on a vacations to Trivandrum on Sept 27, 2007 and will be reaching at 4.00 pm. I want to move to kanyakumari straight away and see besides trivandrum some more places of intrest. Can any Gentle person advice me precisely how to move. where all I should get advance reservations made and what mode of transport I should prefer, keeping in mind I am 65 and is accompanied by my wife. I have a reserved to and fro ticket from delhi to trivandrum. It should not be very expensive since I am a retired person.

Now we have rain here,though it was expected to cease by now.However, I pray that rain shall not affect your journey.
You are reaching on 27th sept from Delhi.You are coming by train? or by air?
If train, it will be easy for you to proceed to kanyakumari since I think there is a connection train after your arrival. Trivandrum (abbreviated as TVM) Kanyakumari journey by train is one hour and a half. Whether express or passenger, the trains stop at almost all stations on the way.
Just check up the platform tp bopard the train to Kanyakumari which will be next to the arrival platform of your train.
However you may not be able to see anything in Trivandrum before you leave for Kanyakumari, since the time will be too late.
On your way back, at Trivandrum the hotel tariff is v low compared to other state capitals.The budget double room tariff will be between 300 to 400 with TV in the room.
The places of interest are,Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple in east fort, (nearly Rs.15 from ly stn by an auto) Shanghumughom beach ( You will have to take an autorickshaw to mofussil bus stand at East Fort and search for the buses going to beach.You must reach there by 4.30 pm and return by 5.30 pm by bus to east fort and then by auto to your lodge.) Kovalam beach (an excursion of an hour from rly bus station.A half day, a forenoon is needed,Afternoon journey is discouraged) The zoo is closed for some maintenance now. There are excursion spots to go from here.It depends upon your sojourn.Let me know the days available, so that I can plan it for you.There are temples, hill stations, backwater tourist village, scenic spots, ashrams, etc etc.
I can suggest some good restaurants if you can detail your tastes.

post script. Munnar . alleppey and kumarakom are not places near Trivandrum. Each of these destinations take minimum four to five hours frm trivandrum.The accommodation is costly also in Munnar and Kumarakom. Kumarakom is my ancestral place.
