Can the boss force you to take vacation time when he’s taking his?
My girlfriend’s boss is going on vacation next month and is now trying to force her to take her vacation at the same time because he doesn’t want to pay her to be in the office if he isn’t there. Is this even legal? I find it ridiculous that she is expected to waste her valued vacation days for the benefit of his. She has been a great employee of his for five years now.
I don’t think there are any laws prohibiting that type of forced vacation. Many companies give, say two weeks vacation, one week to be used anytime and the other is proscribed by the company.
Many companies prohibit vacation at busy times of the year – Tax accountants cannot take vacation in march or april for example.
Your girlfriend has a crappy boss, but I don’t think he’s doing anything illegal.
