Train from Paris to Venice: What route best? What city would spend a day/night in en route? Bern, Frankfurt?
We’re trying to fit an additional city into our European vacation. We’re hoping we can spend an extra day in a city while we’re riding the train from Paris to Venice.
Any ideas? It would be nice if the city was scenic but offered something other than what a tourist would see in Paris, Venice, Tuscany, and Rome.
A medieval German town would be cool but Rothenberg seems far off the rail line.
Frankfurt is too far if you don’t drop by some German towns near Frankfurt. It is like going along a triangle. And Frankfurt is a very modern city.
It is not a medieval German town, but I recommend Ravenna, where is quiet, nice foods, with coast, and 6 centuries beautiful mosaic of Eastern Roman Empire. Actually it is not very far from Venice, but rather inconvenient, though.
It is also good to drop by Verona, Romeo and Juliet city. The city scenery is very beautiful. I think it is very probable to pass by Verona on the way to Venice. So why not drop by?
