vacation dallas tx
I was planning on making a trip to Dallas TX for a week-long vacation at the end of September? Questions…?

Is a week too long? Is there enough to do in that length of time? How far is Dallas from Austin and San Antonio?

What is the weather usually like at that time of year?

What are hotspots that I MUST visit?

I am planning on possibly moving to either Dallas or Austin in the future, so I figured, why not take a trip to see what it’s like there?

Dallas is about 3 1/2 hours north of Austin, and about 5 1/2 hours north of San Antonio.

All three cities are worth spending a week in to be familiar with.

There is plenty to do in Dallas alone; the Dallas World Aquarium is fantastic and worth seeing. Dallas and Fort Worth (about an hour away) both have their own zoos, and there are myriad museums in the area. Dallas has an arboretum, and Fort Worth has a water gardens.

If you like amusement parks, Dallas has both Six Flags over Texas and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.

If you’re into sports, the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars play at American Airlines Center, the Dallas Cowboys have a new stadium, and the Texas Rangers play in Arlington (between Dallas and Fort Worth, near Six Flags and the new Cowboys stadium).

If you’re more into the restaurant and club-going lifestyle, Dallas has a great deal of cuisine from all over the world, ranging from Tex-Mex to southern to Lebanese and Thai.

Of course, there’s also the JFK Memorial.

A lot of these are served by light rail.

Neither San Antonio or Austin have light rail at this time, but are beautiful cities in their own right. San Antonio, of course, has Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas, as well as the world-famous Riverwalk and never forget, the Alamo, which is right in the heart of downtown.

Austin has the State Capitol, University of Texas, Lake Travis, Barton Springs Pool (right downtown), Barton Creek, Zilker Park, Mount Bonnell and the live music capital of the world, Sixth Street.

Both San Antonio and Austin have many caves in the area and several wildlife refuges, where you can see rattlesnakes or alligators, or emus and zebras, or tigers.

Between San Antonio and Austin, in New Braunfels, there is the world-ranked Schlitterbahn, which is a fantastic water-park using the naturally available waters of the nearby Comal River.

Slightly north of New Braunfels, in San Marcos, there is Aquarena Springs. You can get a glass bottomed boat tour or pay a nominal fee to the Lions club to just tube down the very cold, VERY clear river.

San Antonio also has tubing on both the Guadalupe River and the Comal River.

Outside of Fredricksburg, there is Enchanted Rock, which is also definitely worth a visit.

Weather in Dallas the last week of September is typically 65-85. Austin and San Antonio average 65-90.
