Should I move to England or Australia?

I am a senior in high school (in the US) and I am planning on studying overseas – either England or Australia most likely! I want to get out of the US and go somewhere with a vibrant and exciting lifestyle and diversity/culture, and also pretty laid back and friendly people. The majority of the population here is not laid back. I have looked into it a bit and England seems to be the place that has a lot of history and culture to it (correct me if I am mistaken) and I love studying back into the medieval times and history and such so I think I would be fascinated by all the castles and such there….however, I am thinking that it would be a cooler place to just study abroad for a semester or go on a vacation there or something.

In short – which place do you think has better quality of life? I plan on studying for my undergrad there and hopefully staying and getting a job.

Thanks!

Please give me some reasons for your opinions too! That always helps lol!

There’s no doubt that if a country with history and culture dating back to medieval times and earlier, with magnificent castles and churches is what you’re looking for to the exclusion of other lifestyle considerations, England is the place to go. When you think about it though, all of those things to see will still be there in England and you’ll be able to vacation or study there for shorter periods in the future with relative ease given its relative proximity to the US. And if you’re looking for laid back and friendly people in England, you’re looking in the wrong country.

If you want laid back and friendly people, and a great quality of life with a vibrant and exciting lifestyle yet great opportunities and settings for relaxation, you should definitely head for Australia to do your undergrad degree.

As a country that was settled by Europeans only a little over 200 years ago, Australia has nothing dating back to medieval times, no castles, no Westminster Abbeys, no Buckingham Palaces etc.. What we do have is an awesome and beautiful country, with a great climate, the best beaches in the world, the Great Barrier Reef, our own aboriginal history, great food (unlike England) and the nicest, friendliest and most laid back people that you’ll find anywhere. Ours is a very safe and clean country with huge cultural diversity and our educational system is excellent and highly respected throughout the world. In short, it’s exactly the type of place for a young person to have a memorable and enjoyable time while they’re studying.

Australia is usually a very difficult place to get into if you want to work here for a few years after your studies, but if you have Australian qualifications, the door opens for you to stay for as long as you wish. Without Australian qualifications, it’s still possible, but is more difficult. While you’re studying, your student visa will allow you to work for up to 20 hours per week during the semester and unlimited hours during official semester breaks. Casual and part time work is plentiful as our economy is very strong and we have a shortage of workers.
