summer vacation essay
does backpacking relate to science?
I have to do this essay of how your summer vacation relates to science. I went backpacking this summer so i was wondering if that could relate to science. if not any ideas?
You could relate your backpacking trip to:
Any of the environmental sciences;
- geology – what were some of the formations (hills, cliffs, ridges, saddles, mountains, valleys, etc) that you traversed. Did you see any different type of rock or strata of rack?
- entomology – what were some of the bugs that you swatted… saw.
- zoology – did you see any unusual animals, animal tracks, etc…
- biology – what interesting/odd plant life did you see? Did you collect any leaves? Did you count the rings of a downed tree?
- hydrology – the different waterways (creeks, streams, rivers, lakes, ponds) that you saw, swam in, crossed…
- mycology – did you see any mushrooms or other fungus?
- meteorology – did you see any odd cloud formations that you could identify?
- astronomy – did you find any constellations at night in the very dark sky away from the city lights? Did you try and count the stars?
- conservation – did you read or listen to any rules from the local park rangers? Why weren’t you allowed to leave trash? Why weren’t you allowed to cut down trees? or Pick flowers/plants? or Feed the animals?
Exercise Physiology;
- did you measure your resting heart rate vs your heart rate after hiking uphill with your pack?
- how much weight were you carrying? How many miles did you hike on average per day? How many calories were you consuming in a day?
