ski vacation japan

Would it be difficult for an American to vacation in Japan?
I’m considering a ski trip to Japan in a year or two, but I don’t know any japanese.
Is it fairly tourist friendly, or will I get lost and arrested and sent to work in the phosphorous mines with the other confused foreigners?
I was up in Niseko, Hokkaido this summer (I live in Tokyo normally) and was surprised that so many of the people I met there were Australian. I stayed at a lodge run by an Australian, as was the place across the street, the restaurant I went to and the client I went up there to photograph.
You will have no trouble at all if you go up there. Hokkaido also has the best powder in the world, I hear.
The phosphorus mines are a blast, too. They have the best parties.
