christmas vacation jamaica

Question about Vacation and the Army..?
I am stumped as to what to get my husband for Christmas (yes I know it’s early) and I am thinking about booking a 7 day trip to Jamaica for around June of 2009 and having that be his gift.
If I do that, will he be able to request 7 days of his leave ahead of time to assure that he’ll be able to go?
Or how does that work? He won’t be in AIT or anything at that time.
If he gets Iraq or Germany as his post will he be able to leave from there for vacation?
Don’t be rude, I’m just curious and not sure how it works.
It sounds like your husband is new in the Army, and possibly still in training.
Don’t buy or book anything yet! Not until he graduates from training, and has inprocessed into his unit, at least. When he gets to the unit, he should be able to put in for leave then.
If he goes to Germany, he might be able to take leave when he wants. If he goes to Iraq, he will not have much control over his R&R dates.
If he goes to a unit that is not scheduled to deploy too soon, he should be able to put in for leave well in advance.
Still, no matter what, do not buy tickets until you have a signed leave form in hand (unless the tickets are fully refundable).
